End of an Era: Google Drive officially terminates automatic Google Photos sync starting today

Starting today, designated local system folders mapped via the Drive desktop client will no longer continuously push new photos or videos into cloud photo storage automatically. - Existing Media is Safe: Photos and videos previously uploaded through the Drive sync tool will remain safely stored inside Google Photos and will not be removed. - The Break in the Pipeline: The background bridge that automatically watched local desktop directories (like digital camera imports or local media folders) and pushed them straight to Google Photos has been disabled. Standard file syncing inside Google Drive itself remains unchanged. - Mobile Unaffected: Automatic uploads triggered via iOS and Android Google Photos mobile apps will continue operating normally.
